Radio Camp Facilitator Guide

Activity

Learn how wireless technologies communicate through radio.

micro:bits

30+ minutes

camp

In this week long camp designed for middle school-aged youth, learners explore how radio-enabled devices send and receive signals over long distances and use BBC micro:bits to simulate a real-world radio communication scenario. Through hands-on experimentation, crafting, coding, and guided discussions, learners investigate how factors like signal strength and interference affect radio transmission. The camp culminates in a team challenge where learners use what they learned during the camp to design a radio communication solution for a fictional emergency scenario, emphasizing problem framing, problem-solving and collaboration.
