Decode the Message

Activity

Encode and decode messages

paper-pencil

15-30 minutes

camp

In this activity, learners explore the application of coding and decoding information. Participants are introduced to the idea of decoding by using a simple word transformed through the "one letter back" code. Learners pair up to decode sentences containing interconnected questions and answers, fostering collaboration. The activity concludes with a creative twist, as learners invent their secret code systems, promoting innovation and critical thinking. A reflective debriefing session encourages learners to articulate differences between coding and decoding, explore characteristics of effective codes, and consider the purpose of using coded messages for communication.
